Good question! A few reasons really. Among them:
- I needed a website anyway for other things beyond fundraising.
- Alternatives like GoFundMe take a pretty sizable chunk of the donated money.
- Full layout control – other sites only provide a restrictive narrow column for everything.
- Do things the way I want to do them. Stretch goals? Sure! GIFs in comments? Heck yeah!
Most importantly though, I wanted a high focus on community and reassurance to you all that as much of every one of your hard earned dollars you choose to donate goes to the channel and not some 3rd party.
Sure! Simply go through the Donation process again as normal. For the top 10 Thank You Gifts list, just put “N/A” in there.

What if I want to update my desired Thank You Gifts?
Yes, two ways. To do so through the system (preferred), simply add a $1 donation and update your list at that time. Sadly I cannot make this be $0.
Another way that is manual but free is to send me an email at contact@kingofaverage.com. I can make a note of your changes in the backend. Please title the email: Change in 2024 Thank You Gift list
Can I give and not request any Thank You Gifts?
Of course! Simply put “N/A” or really whatever you want in the pick list for Thank You Gifts. Your donation is extremely appreciated!
Yes of course! I find it a great way to reduce shelf bloat and give it to an awesome community member instead of someone random online. 🙂

In general the only requirement is that you be able to communicate with the winner to arrange for payment of shipping after the fundraiser.
January 31st at 11:59 MST. If there is a large enough desire to extend it from the community then I’ll do so.
What happens if I earn a thank you gift but no longer want anything?
Let me know as soon as you decide that you do not want a Thank You Gift via an email to contact@kingofaverage.com. I will update the backend system with that note.
If this happens after you were chosen to get a gift then we’ll draw another entry contact them in your place.
Can I earn more than 1 Thank You Gift?
No. While I’d love to send a Thank You Gift to every single member of the community, donation or not it’s simply not feasible or responsible financially to do so. In an effort to give as much as I can to as many people as I can we limit gifts to 1 per person.
What if the goal is not reached?
I tend to have plenty of self doubt, my patrons all wanted a higher goal – however in the end it doesn’t really matter. Every dollar donated goes to the channel, the goal is just a celebratory milestone.
Stretch goals are purposefully designed to not increase cost so donation money isn’t tied up into delivering them. If that should change and a stretch goal be directly tied to a goal I will communicate this.
How will shipping be calculated?
Some are from companies and some are from patrons and most are from me.
I can’t speak for the companies, but my patrons and myself will put best effort into finding the most secure and cheapest way to get the item to you. Many of these are prototype games that do not store easily in a single box and so often they have a higher cost to ship based on that alone. Please keep in mind the estimated cost already listed when making your desired list.
In the end though, since you’re the one paying for it if you want it sooner or with more features (signature required, etc.) you can work with the person sending your item to get it to you the way you wish.
